Parenting (CPRT)

Is Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) Training Right for You and Your Child?

As a parent do you feel like you have lost control?

Do you find yourself yelling at your child more often than laughing with your child?

Do you feel you have lost touch with your child and don’t feel as close as you’d like?

Do you feel frustrated and find yourself saying the same things over and over again with no results?

Would you like for your relationship with your child to go back to the “way it used to be”?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions CPRT (also called Filial Therapy) is a research-based, 10-week parenting course that teaches parents how to use some of the same skills that play therapists use to help children experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral problems.

Research shows that motivated parents can be as effective as a professional in helping their child.

How Can CPRT Training Help?

In 10 weeks, you will learn how to:

  • Regain control as a parent

  • Help your child develop self-control

  • Effectively discipline & limit inappropriate behavior

  • Understand your child’s emotional needs

  • Communicate more effectively with your child

In 10 weeks, you will see a noticeable difference in:

  • Your relationship with your child

  • Your child’s behavior

  • Your ability to respond effectively

  • Your confidence in your parenting skills

I offer CPRT Training in two formats:

  1. A group class. This is generally my recommendation. You and a group of parents will meet weekly for 10 weeks for 2 hours. I do not currently have a group scheduled, but will schedule one with enough interest. You can also check with the Center for Relational Care for a group https://www.relationalcare.org/cprt

  2. For individuals or couples. I also do this training on an individual family basis. This can be done either in person or online. Typically this can be done in 1 hour trainings for 10 weeks.

This training is exclusively for the caregivers, so children will not be attending. I spend the first several weeks teaching you skills and a specific structure for therapeutic play times with your child. Then the remainder of the weeks, you record these structured play times (they're 20-30 minutes once per week), and share them with me, and we explore even more skills brought up in your play times!

How Do I Sign Up?

Contact me via email at Madison@JoyInTheMorn.org. Let me know if you prefer a group or family format, and whether or not you prefer virtual training.
