Madison Short Conteh

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Registered Play Therapist (RPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Trained Therapist

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who graduated from Texas State University with a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling, and Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Missions. I really enjoy doing Child Centered Play Therapy with children (typically aged 3-9) and talk therapy with adults. I love to combine the two by facilitating therapeutic parenting work, often in the form of Child Parent Relationship Therapy training.

My specialization is in working with trauma and abuse, and because of that I also use EMDR therapy with adults and children. EMDR works to target memories of disturbing past experiences and alleviate the distress. EMDR uses the brain's own processing powers so that when a past disturbing experience is recalled, you can remember the memory instead of relive the memory. I also have experience working with Substance Abuse and Addiction and am qualified to use Auricular Acupuncture for Detoxification.

I work with people from all walks of life, and I don't discriminate against clients based on issues like religion, but I do think it's helpful to you to know where my biases about the world have come from.

I am a Christian and I believe that each person is deeply and fully loved by God exactly as they are in this moment. Sadly, I have seen people be hurt by the church and told that they're not loved exactly as they are or in the fullest expression of themselves, and I want you to know that I think that's simply not true. If that's the case for you, let me start by apologizing for that hurt, and know I'm willing to work with you as your ally to find healing from that. As a counselor I have seen that God uses my role to support each person's journey in seeing themselves with mercy the way God already does. I believe there is no suffering or sorrow that is too deep for God to bring a peace that passes all understanding, and that He can use professional counseling to release that restoration.

Many of the issues that bring an individual or family in to counseling actually come from unmet relational needs. Counseling is the toolset that enables you and me to work together as a team to uncover those needs, how they were met or unmet in your past, and develop effective strategies to get needs met in a way that builds and maintains your current relationships. I look forward to walking alongside you on this journey.
